Butzbach

The market square, center of the town

The market fountain (first documented in 1435) had running water, unlike the other fountains in the town.
The statue of Knight Roland indicated the citys right of jurisdiction in order to let everyone know that disturbers would be severely punished.

The town hall dating from 1560 continues to be today the home of the municipal administration. Its imposing timber framing has been exposed since 1926. In the ground floor hall stone monuments are exhibited, bearing witness of Butzbachs Roman and mediaeval heritage. The Municipal tourist office is located here.

Half-timbered buildings are characteristic of Butzbach.
