| The Witch Tower is one of the last preserved town wall towers. It was built as a watch tower and a prison. Witches accused of "black magic" were also imprisoned here while awaiting trial and (usually) the scaffold. |

| The free spaces between the wall structures (the Schwibbogen) were used for shacks, pens (pigsties), small businesses etc.. Later on the tiny holes served as dwellings. |

| In the last century the gates to the town were laid down to make room for larger vehicles. There is only one bastion left now. |
